SCPC Overview

Ever wonder who’s behind that crazy festival in the Student Center, that big concert in the Burger Bowl, or that epic speaker in the Ferst Center? The Student Center Programs Council is Georgia Tech’s premier programming community, and SCPCers make those events happen. Our diverse membership of dedicated student leaders brainstorm, plan, and execute an array of forty campus events per year. These programs can be entertaining, thought-provoking, educational, energizing, or anything in between, but most of all they must be FUN. It’s who we are, what we have, and what we hope to bring to campus forty times a year.

Mission

The Student Center Programs Council seeks to visibly impact the Georgia Tech
community by setting the national standard for student-led programming and
leadership development.

We seek to encourage and inspire leadership by providing unparalleled resources for
personal and professional growth to our members and internally promoting proven
contributors. We strive to consistently provide fun and high quality programs that
appeal to all demographics of the Georgia Tech community.

We promote unity, not only along our members, but among campus organizations and
departments by actively seeking collaboration and fostering a positive atmosphere
throughout campus.

Structure

The Student Center Programs Council includes nine committees dedicated to shaping campus life: Arts and Culture, Atlanta Life, Comedy and Entertainment, Concerts, Festivals, Homecoming, Movies, Options, and Ramblin’ Nights. Membership is distributed amongst these committees, each of which is led by a committee chair. Most committees utilize co-chairs who lead subcommittees, which are created to tackle certain aspects of events or even entire events. These leadership opportunities within committees are a perfect training ground to become a committee chair. All events are envisioned, planned, organized, coordinated, and executed by students in collaboration with the Student Center staff and both internal and external sponsors.

The nine committee chairs are members of SCPC’s Board led by the President, Vice President of Campus Relations and Recruitment, and Vice President of External Relations and Finance. Officers focus on providing the guidance and resources necessary for chairs and their committees to perform at the highest level and provide the highest quality of programming possible. The Membership, Promotions, and Finance Executive Committees each serve under the officers as executive teams to build community, coordinate publicity, and support solicitation for internal and corporate funding respectively.

Each committee and officer is provided a full time staff advisor that supports them in their ambitious endeavors.

Recruitment

All committee members are accepted in September to begin during the fall semester and continue throughout the school year. Homecoming committee members are recruited in November to begin in the spring and continue through the following fall. Board members are also recruited in November and serve a yearlong term starting in January. Officers, Committee Chairs, and Committee members all undergo a separate and unique application process.
